Jon Stewart and John Oliver on the Bush Administration's Slippery Definition of the Word "Terror"

  • Stewart: So words, in and of themselves, have no value?
  • Oliver: Wow. Wow, I'd have thought you'd at least support our words, Jon.
  • Stewart: I don't, I don't uh . . .
  • Oliver: Our brave, fighting words that have been serving this country since the War on Terror began. Many of them making the ultimate sacrifice: losing their definitions. Words like "torture", "victory", "surge", "mission", "accomplished"—once filled with purpose, now signifying nothing. I know one little word named "progress". Poor bastard. ... Poor little noun. And all the while words like "John" and "Stewart" sit at home, doing nothing.
